Group WorkingDiploma in Supervision (Advanced Specialist Training Status with NCS)

This part-time course for qualified professionals is available to study in Exeter and Poole and runs over 12 days. 
It has Advanced Specialist Training Status with the National Counselling Society (NCS).
  • Provides those in the helping professions with a repertoire of creative supervision strategies.
  • Builds practitioners' understanding of the need for supervision and the purpose of supervision, as well as their awareness of the educative, supportive and managerial elements of supervision. 
  • Suitable for those qualified in a range of professions, including counsellors, psychotherapists, counselling or clinical psychologists, mental health or wellbeing professionals, nurses, doctors, teacher and those in other related roles.

Course Details

Key features:

  • Aimed at existing qualified professionals who adhere to a professional code of ethics.
  • Offers participants the chance to learn about a number of supervision models and the characteristics and features of each.
  • Allows participants to sensitise themselves to the implications of their behaviours and interventions of supervisees, and review the impact of their supervisory styles.
  • Builds awareness of the importance of ethical principles and frameworks in supervisory practice and encourages participants to critically evaluate ethical approaches to supervision.
  • Participants will practice and develop their own supervision skills throughout and will need to supervise at least 1 supervisee during the course, to achieve a minimum of 5 hours of practice as a supervisor.


To be eligible for this course you must:

  • Be a qualified professional who adheres to a code of conduct. For example, a counsellor, psychotherapist, counselling or clinical psychologist, mental health or wellbeing professional, nurse, doctor or teacher. We also welcome applicants in other related roles - please contact us if you would like to discuss your eligibility.
  • Be able to demonstrate successful completion of relevant training, qualifying you to work in your stated professional capacity (as per above).

Please note: Completion of this course does not provide a route to registration with the 
National Counselling Society (NCS) and detailed individual applications to NCS are required for this purpose, where applicable.

You can apply by submitting the following documents and items:

  • A completed Post Qualifying Courses application form (available to download from 'Download' section of this web page).
  • Your £500 Enrolment Deposit (Non Refundable) to reserve your place (see the 'Fees' tab for further information).

Application documents can be submitted by email to admissions@ironmill.co.uk, or by post to Iron Mill College, Morwenstow, 7 Barnfield Crescent, Exeter, Devon, EX1 1QT.

Successful applicants will be offered a place on the course once all of the above application documents have been received and the Enrolment Deposit paid.

Final Application Date

The deadline for applications is 4 weeks before the start of the course. A decision will be made on whether the course will run, based on confirmed and accepted places, 4 weeks before the start date of the course. Any applications received after the 4 week deadline will only be processed at the discretion of the Programmes Lead / Course Lead.
