Processes and Challenges around Diversity and Social Responsibility

Join us for this UKATA-led event for Trainers and Supervisors

Some of the social unrest and conflicts in the UK during the 1970's highlighted the prejudice and discrimination in our society. The laws around sexual and racial equality that followed could be considered as “social control” in order to contain that which had been legitimised and now needed to be regulated.

In the following decades, progress was achieved in other areas of social unfairness – including religion, disability and sexuality. This work continues alongside an urgency for us to consider our social responsibility at these times of various global crises.

However, mobilising and working through the psychodynamics has been more challenging.  Part of the contribution to the difficulty is the level of confusion, shame, fear, suppressed aggression and withdrawal that can be experienced in training and supervision groups.

Course Details

This day provides opportunity to consider our personal and professional engagement in the subject, as well as practicalities of how to further this work for the enhancement of diversity in your programmes and supervision practice.

  • The first part of the day offers opportunity to explore the complexity of our own identities and experiences around difference, othering and subjectivity.  Tips will also be available for design and facilitation of programmes.
  • The second part of the day provides the chance to review practical work situations in teaching or supervision with discussion and group supervision regarding content and process.
