Key features:

Movement as Medicine is a form of dance meditation practice, ideally suited to the active and busy lifestyle of the modern world, starting from where we already are – in motion.

Using music from every imaginable source, from the devotional to the latest chart hits, it can be related to as anything from a simple cardio-vascular work out to deep spiritual practice. If you love music and dance, especially if “steps” have ever put you off or you have ever struggled to access meditative states through sitting quietly, then this is for you.

Course Content:

Part of a culture that values the head over both the heart and the body, we are currently living through very challenging times. Times in which being stuck in our heads or awash in unconscious and disembodied feeling is not going to lead to the resilience and resourcing we so badly need.

Based on the Movement Medicine mandala, we begin by Awakening the Dancer, the aspect of self that has the resources to transform everything that life brings to our door, into deep wisdom. We will tune into the heart, let go of what needs to be released; reclaim anything we need for our well-being; reconcile ourselves to what is and ask what we need to restore at this time in order that we can serve others more fully.

Ali, a qualified Movement Medicine teacher and mentor, as well as a positive psychology coach, will be running some whole days of Movement Medicine at Iron Mill once lock down is over and is currently offering this regular slot online both as an introduction and a support.

Dance medicine is truly as described. The dance has been part of my eight year transformational journey. I have been dancing for two of those years and the deep work of body movement has opened up my heart and helped me to access my emotions. Dance is a great way of connecting with others and with oneself. Ali is a professional and sensitive teacher who holds a safe therapeutic space. She creates an imaginative space for us to dance in, enabling freedom and self-expression – it is a privilege and a joy to dance with her.” Penny Franklin, Budleigh Salterton

Ali holds a very safe space that allows you to explore yourself through movement. Her ability to use the music to go deep into the core of the theme of the session is outstanding. Her lovely voice guiding you all the way with perfect intuitive knowing. A medicine for the body and soul. I highly recommend her.” Rahima Ferguson, Dorset.
