Iron Mill College Seminar - Exeter

A is for Autism - Narratives and Perspectives from those whose lives have been changed by Autism

Including Special Guest Speakers:

Arsenal Whittick - An inspirational personal narrative.

Rachael Copelin Irvine - The parent's journey.

Autism is a hidden disability that can impact children and adults in a variety of ways.

Unexpected changes, understanding and relating to other people, and taking part in everyday family, school, work and social life can be difficult. Some autistic people say the world feels overwhelming and they always feel anxious and different.

It can be difficult to find support for children who have autism. Some parents of autistic children say that other people simply think their child is naughty and it can be difficult to access the proper support.

Practitioners who work with autistic clients may need to adapt their approach and understand more about how it feels to be autistic.
  • A 1 day seminar for anyone who would like to know more about Autism from the experiences of those who have made the journey into new understanding and insights. Held at Iron Mill College in Exeter.

What our Students Say

“It achieved a great balance between knowledge of the topic and making this interesting and close to us... the Tutor managed to make {the lecture} understandable to us with day to day examples. At the same time we felt that he was really an expert in the topic. From a HR perspective we were delighted to get so many people participating in the Q&A after the talk, as this is not the usual way our staff behaves.”

What our Students Say

“My experience with the iron Mill was the best decision in my life, I would rate the IMI 10/10. I'm not saying it was easy, especially starting a new career at the age of 50, but I got through with a lot of hard work and dedication. Our tutors were an inspiration during the four years. Since I got my Diploma I have been so busy counselling, only last week I was offered another new job, it's amazing.”
